On 2018 04 11 there was an event Study Day in Utena, Lithuania. The targeted auditorium were pupils and teachers from Utena town and nearby districts. Vilnius Business College presented its study programmes and spoke about its implemented projects, including Unity in Diversity.  UID booklets were delivered together with VBC info packs to acquaint prospective learners with the project.

2018 03 01 There were Erasmus+ internships presentation and Algoos presentation in Vilnius Business College. The targeted auditorium were VBC students. The presenters introduced VBC International activities and International projects, encouraged students to learn languages, delivered Unity In Diversity booklets to VBC students and Algoos partner who recruit students for summer jobs / internships in hospitality industry.

Piloting A1 at TUSDU on 20.3.2018

Piloting at TUSDU started on 20 March 2018 there was the first piloting the project-learning platform for A1 at TUSDU. It was done with language teachers. On that day, there was one group of teachers.

In total, there were 8 language teachers and many of them were very excited to be among the first teachers to be part of piloting the project and using this very interactive tool.

The first impressions are very positive and they were very interested in many languages. Teachers enjoyed the platform and evaluated the learning process as interesting, useful and they admitted that they had learnt many new things since Italian, French, German and Spanish they have been learning for several years.

Detailed results of the feedback forms will be analysed in the course piloting report at the end of the semester.

Čáslav Transnational Seminar (Multiplier Event)

On Friday, April 6, the language teachers from Czech and Slovenian vocational schools met in the lecture hall of our school. At the seminar, we organized for them in cooperation with our partner Higher vocational college from Murska Sobota (Slovenia), they could learn about the outputs of the Erasmus + KA2 project “ Language Skills and Intercultural Issues in the Hospitality Industry: Unity in Diversity in the EU Market".

After welcoming the participants by the director, the project coordinator Pavel Kluh presented the basic principles of the professional language courses made by the project team of nine higher and secondary schools from Europe and Turkey. These are blended learning and motivation of students through interactive e-learning platform and case studies.

Blended learning, a combination of standard learning and e-learning, in language education was introduced to the participants in detail by Erna Vörös from VSŠ Murska Sobota. However, this method cannot work without a good e-learning platform. This topic was discussed by our ICT teacher Hana Medlíková.

Then Erna Vörös introduced individual courses in 16 languages, covering almost all levels of CEFR, and offering a wide range of professional topics focused on hospitality industry. The contribution of the project for education in this professional field was appreciated by Jana Šturmová, who represented the Czech Association of Hotels and Restaurants at the seminar. In her speech she not only appreciated our project, but also offered various educational activities to the schools, as well as support for international cooperation from the Association.

Under the guidance of our teachers Hana Kosíková and Jana Ptáčková the participants of the seminar tried the e-learning platform in the afternoon workshops. They could see what can be considered the greatest benefit of our project. That is, the courses prepared by our project team can be used even for general and other professionally oriented language learning. For example, topics related to management, marketing, or finance can be used for language education at economically-oriented higher and secondary vocational schools. The modules about European countries, orientation in the city, communication at the reception or in the restaurant can improve the language skills and cultural awareness of everyone who goes abroad as a tourist.

Together with our partner school from Murska Sobota, we hope that the participants of the seminar have been interested in our e-learning platform so much that they will start using it in language teaching at their schools and thus bring it to life. At the very least, however, we managed to create a space in which schools could exchange examples of good practice in informal debates and establish contacts at national and international level.
